Axar Patel ends Joe Root’s innings

The left-arm spinner Axar Patel has delivered a sensational performance with the bat for India in the ongoing series against England National Cricket Team, but he has not been at his very best with the ball.

He has been unable to trouble the English batters in the series, but in the third ODI, the spinner picked up the biggest wicket of the innings.

Axar came in to bowl in the 21st over and on the second ball itself, he dismissed Joe Root. Root has been the best batter for England in the series and he was back in the hut for a low score in the match.

Axar bowled a length ball around off-stump to Root and the English batter leaned ahead to drive it through covers. However, he only managed to get an inside edge and the ball crashed into the stumps.

Notably, Root misjudged the drift and the length and played down the wrong line as he expected some away turn. This led to him being dismissed by the Indian spinner.

Joe Root took a long walk back to the pavilion after scoring 24 runs off 29 balls, with 2 fours and he batted with a strike rate of 82.75

Who Were England’s Top Performers In The Previous ODI vs India?

The Three Lions lost the second ODI against India by 4 wickets, which also resulted in a series defeat, but some players stood out with their brilliant performances.

Joe Root (69 off 72) top-scored for his team and was involved in a brilliant 66-run stand with Harry Brook that ensured that the visiting team had momentum on their side and reached a competitive total.

Opener Ben Duckett (65 off 56) also smashed a half-century by playing his natural attacking brand of cricket. He took England off to a flyer while batting first and kept India on the back foot with his aggressive game.

The batting all-rounder Liam Livingstone – (41 runs & 1/29) provided the finishing touches to the England innings with his quickfire knock and took them past 300 runs. With the ball, he picked up the biggest wicket of the night by dismissing centurion Rohit Sharma.

Meanwhile, Jamie Overton (2/27) was England’s best bowler in the match as he dismissed Shubman Gill and KL Rahul. He didn’t get much support from the other end as Gus Atkinson and Adil Rashid picked one wicket each but they had an economy of 9.28 and 7.80.
