The highly anticipated ICC Champions Trophy 2025 is set to kick off on February 19, with matches scheduled across Pakistan and the UAE. The tournament marks the return of the prestigious 50-over competition, featuring eight top cricketing nations battling for the coveted title.
Pakistan, the designated host, will witness high-voltage encounters as teams aim to adapt to the conditions and stake their claim for the trophy. With a blend of experienced campaigners and rising stars, the tournament promises to deliver thrilling contests for cricket fans worldwide.
The competition will see the top teams in world cricket go head-to-head in what is expected to be a fiercely contested event. Powerhouses like India, Australia, England, and New Zealand will bring their best players to the tournament, ensuring high-quality cricket.
With world-class bowlers and explosive batters in action, fans can expect nail-biting matches and memorable performances. The spin-friendly conditions in the UAE and subcontinent-like pitches in Pakistan will test the adaptability of all teams, making the tournament even more competitive.
Indian off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has weighed in on the potential favorites for the Champions Trophy 2025. Speaking on his YouTube channel, Ashwin highlighted two teams he believes are the strongest contenders.
Backing India as the top favorite, Ashwin pointed out their familiarity with UAE conditions, which could play a crucial role in their campaign.
“India will have the advantage of playing on a home-like ground in Dubai. Teams facing India will feel that they are playing in Indian conditions. This is definitely a problem for other teams,” said Ashwin.
The Chennai-born Indian spin legend also picked New Zealand as a strong challenger despite their recent changes in the bowling lineup.
“After India, New Zealand is one of the strongest teams in the Champions Trophy. Players like Saurabh and Bolt are not playing so there is a question mark on their bowling attack. New Zealand has an experienced spin attack with Michael Bracewell and Glenn Phillips. It remains to be seen how captain Mitchell Santner uses his resources. New Zealand is definitely a strong team. They are one of the challengers to India,” added Ashwin.
