The Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2025 is set to kick off on February 14, promising another thrilling season of high-intensity cricket. With the best players from around the world gearing up for battle, fans are eagerly awaiting what is expected to be a fiercely competitive tournament. The tournament opener will set the stage for an exciting race to the title, with teams looking to establish their dominance early on.
Former India men’s cricketer Aakash Chopra has weighed in on the potential winners of WPL 2025, naming Delhi Capitals (DC) as one of the strong contenders for the coveted trophy. Despite falling short in the last two seasons, Chopra believes DC’s consistency and fearless approach make them a formidable side.
“Success is always defined by trophies, but in the first two seasons of the WPL, Delhi Capitals have truly stood out with their style of play and consistency. I know they haven’t won a title yet, but they came very close last season. Given their performances, they will definitely be one of the favourites this year as well,” said Chopra on Star Sports.
Notably, Delhi Capitals have been one of the most dominant teams in the WPL since its inception. They finished as table-toppers in both the 2023 and 2024 editions but fell short in the final on both occasions, suffering heartbreaking losses against Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bengaluru, respectively.
As they prepare to open their WPL 2025 campaign against first season champions Mumbai Indians in Vadodara on February 15, DC will be determined to go one step further this time and finally lift the trophy.
With a balanced squad, top-class international stars, and a hunger to break their title drought, DC appear to be one of the strongest contenders to win WPL 2025. Fans will be watching closely to see if they can turn their past heartbreaks into championship glory.
